The Victorian Government has recently announced that they will extend the moratorium on rent increases and evictions for residential and commercial tenants until 31 December 2020. This represents a further extension of three months.
The announcement also states that eligible tenants and landlords will be supported with up to $3,000 of payments as part of the Victorian Government’s Rental Relief Grant program for tenants and Hardship Fund for landlords.

As part of the announcement, the Victorian Government also advised that further land tax concessions would be introduced for those landlords who have provided tenants with a 50% or more rent waiver for at least a three month period. The land tax relief is in the form of a further 25% land tax reduction for the 2020 year (i.e. up from 25% to 50%) with the balance of land tax payable for the 2020 year assessment due on 31 March 2021. The application process to obtain the land tax reduction will shortly be opened via MyLandTax on the State Revenue Office of Victoria website.
