Banks Group welcomes new Chief Operating Officer

Banks Group is excited to formally announce the recent appointment of Claudia Häger (CFA GAICD) as our new Chief Operating Officer.

Having joined Banks Group on 1 July 2019 after two years as a General Manager at a Melbourne-based real estate company, Claudia’s personal and professional background is a fascinating story.

Originally from Germany, much of her childhood was spent in the Middle East and Asia. After graduating from Edinburgh University in Geography and Economics, Claudia then spent eight years in the UK, commencing her career at Goldman Sachs and Barclays Global Investors. Moving away from Europe in 2006, her next roles at Macquarie Bank and Westpac Institutional Bank provided the opportunity to be based in Melbourne, Singapore and Sydney.

With over twenty years’ experience leading high-performing teams, driving growth and implementing best practice frameworks, Claudia is able to consistently apply strong communication skills, transparent business goals and actively contribute to people development and operational efficiencies.

“I put the customer experience at the forefront of everything I do. Part of that is ensuring that I’m consistently a key driver in setting and executing the strategic direction of the business,” says Ms Häger. “With many important projects in the pipeline, this is an exciting time to be joining the team at Banks Group.”

Eugene Smarrelli, Partner at Banks Group says, “Our firm is always looking for that something different. We are not afraid to take risks – we considered employing someone within the profession but why do what everyone else does?

“Banks Group has identified that retaining and nurturing the staff of today is the most difficult thing to do. Professions spend much of its time replacing and retraining staff that are, eventually, enticed away with a promise of ‘greener pastures’. Rather than replace and retrain, why not just retain?

“Under our previous General Manager, we set the scene for growth and structure, thus the decision to engage the expertise of a COO that can take us to the next level by engaging the next generation so that we can enhance our client experience and look to 2020 and beyond.

“We are pleased to have Claudia join us in the COO role, as she will provide strong direction and leadership in successfully motivating, managing and developing our staff. Claudia will also be instrumental in implementing transformational change across the business, team and client experience that will set aside from the rest of the profession.”

We welcome Claudia and look forward to seeing her further position Banks Group as one of the premier SMP accounting firms in the industry.
